On Tuesday 16/7/2025, a simulated pollution incident exercise was held in the sea area of the Gulf of Thessaloniki by persistent oil waste. The purpose of the exercise was to test and evaluate the preparedness, coordination and response of the involved Entities, at a potential real pollution incident.
The participants in the exercise:
- Thessaloniki Central Coast Guard Authority
- HELLENIC PETROLEUM S.A. (HELPE)
- Thessaloniki Port Authority S.A. (ThPA)
- CETRACORE JETOIL
- NORTH AEGEAN SLOPS sa
During the exercise, the relevant action plans were activated and containment and decontamination measures were implemented, using appropriate equipment (floating barriers, recovery pumps, etc.), while emphasis was placed on communication and cooperation between all parties involved.
The exercise was successfully completed, with the conclusion of good operational readiness.
